Over the last few years, the Clemson Tigers’ football program has been nowhere close to expectations. Dabo Swinney and company are focused on turning that around entering the upcoming 2026 college football season. Not long ago, Clemson was viewed as a consistent National Championship contender. Each and every year, it looked like the Tigers were one of the best teams in the nation.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementRecently, those expectations have fallen off or at the very least not lived up to.Last season, Clemson entered the season as a potential championship contender. By the end of the year, Swinney’s team barely made a bowl game and ended up losing it to Penn State.Following the 7-6 debacle of the 2025 season, the Tigers are facing pressure. Swinney himself is also facing pressure. There are some who believe his job could be on the line in the very near future if the Clemson football program doesn’t turn around. With that being said, Swinney spoke out on Tuesday at the team’s media outing and made a bold promise to the fans ahead of the upcoming year.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement“I want to win more games,” Swinney said bluntly. He continued on, making it clear that he will take the Tigers back to the top of college football.“We’ve been to the top many times around here, and we’re gonna take Clemson back to the top. That’s going to happen,” Swinney said. “Whether it happens this year, I don’t know. But my main objective is to make sure we get the arrow pointed back where it needs to be, and that we’re a tougher football team mentally. That’s been a big focus for us.”After such a disappointing season just one year ago, Swinney also stated that the team has moved past that and is focused on righting the ship in 2026.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement“We’re way past all that. That page is turned, man,” Swinney said. “I mean, it’s ’26. … We’ve long moved past last year. It’s all about this team. We’ve been rolling since January. … It’s not really anything to balance at this point. It’s all about ’26.”Hopefully, Swinney can deliver on his promise to take the Tigers back to being a National Championship caliber team. On paper, the roster is loaded with talent, but they will need to prove that they can turn talent into wins this season.
