Cleveland Guardians’ Pitching Plan Coming Out of the All-Star Break

By admin — In News — July 16, 2026

The All-Star Break is almost over, and with that, the Cleveland Guardians have already started planning for the second half.On Wednesday, the team shared their pitching plan heading into their first series out of the break, which is a three-game set against the Pittsburgh Pirates.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThere hasn’t been a change in who will be Cleveland’s rotation; it’ll be the same five pitchers who have been in the rotation since Opening Day.However, the Guardians are slightly adjusting the order of their starting five coming out of the All-Star Break. Here’s Cleveland’s probable starters for the upcoming weekend series:ImageJoey Cantillo pitched in Cleveland’s final game before the break last Sunday against the Miami Marlins. If Cleveland were to have followed the same order it’s used for most of the season, Slade Cecconi should’ve been the next starter coming out of the break.Instead, the Guardians are going with Gavin Williams, who has looked like the team’s ace at times this season.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementJoey Cantillo will then take the ball on Saturday, with Tanner Bibee starting on Sunday. The rationale for splitting Williams and Bibee likely stems from the Guardians already having another left-hander in the rotation, All-Star rookie Parker Messick, and not wanting them to pitch back-to-back.The Guardians haven’t shared their probable pitcher for their first two games against the Minnesota Twins on Monday and Tuesday. It’ll be some combination of Cecconi or Messick.Cleveland’s rotation continues to be the team’s main strength in the 2026 season. The Guardians’ starters have a combined 3.69 ERA, which ranks fifth in the American League and in the top 10 in all of MLB.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThis has also been one of the most taxed rotations in baseball, too, with the Guardians’ starters throwing a combined 538.1 innings before the break, which is the third-most in baseball. With the All-Star Break and the shift of the rotation coming out of it, each pitcher is getting a little extra rest between starts, which is exactly what they need to put together a strong final stretch of the season.Guardians Roundtable also offers a fan community and message board.
