The Colorado Rockies came away from a three-game set with the Los Angeles Dodgers feeling surprisingly competitive, even though they dropped two of the three contests. Their road offense continues to impress, but the challenge ahead is steeper as they head to San Francisco for a four-game series against the Giants, a ballpark where Denver’s club has historically faced struggles.
Colorado will send right-hander Ryan Feltner (3-2, 4.27 ERA) to the mound for his 13th start of the season. Feltner was near dominant in his last outing, a start against San Francisco at Coors Field, where he delivered a quality start by limiting the Giants to three runs, two earned, on six hits across six innings. He also set a season high with nine strikeouts and walked no one in a convincing performance. However, Feltner has had more difficulty at Oracle Park in the past. In three prior starts there, including one in 2024, he has yielded 11 runs on 17 hits, including three homers, across 16 innings. Walks have been an occasional issue for him historically, though the current version of Feltner has shown an ability to attack hitters, pound the strike zone, and rack up strikeouts. With a Giants lineup that has struggled at times, Feltner will have an opportunity to build on the positive momentum from his last outing.
Opposing Feltner is left-hander Carson Whisenhunt (1-0, 3.60 ERA), who will be recalled from Triple-A to start for San Francisco. Whisenhunt appeared for the Giants in a spot start on June 17, allowing two runs on six hits over five innings against the Atlanta Braves. In the minors this season with Sacramento, he has posted a 4.42 ERA over 16 appearances, along with 82 strikeouts against 37 walks. His big-league track record from last season includes a 5.01 ERA, with control and home runs as recurring concerns. Whisenhunt brings a mix of pitches, with a changeup considered his best offering, carrying a 27% whiff rate. He will look to keep the Rockies off balance in his first full assignment of the year at Oracle Park.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:45 pm MT, with television coverage on Rockies.TV and radio broadcasts on KOA 850 AM/94.1 FM and KNRV 1150. This series could hinge on which offense can exploit the opposing pitcher—especially considering how well Colorado has produced away from home recently and whether San Francisco’s hitters can rekindle their productive at-bats against a Rockies starter who has shown both resilience and strikeout potential.
