In this week’s Reacts survey, we offered a concise list of CB names from the Commanders roster and asked which of them would log the most defensive snaps in 2026. The implicit expectation was that Trey Amos would be healthy enough to open the season and would be one of the two starting cornerbacks. The question reflected the defensive shakeup and the intense competition underway.
The prompt was prompted by Rasul Douglas’s signing at the start of the week. Like Amos, Douglas is predominantly an outside corner, though he did spend an eight-game stretch with the Packers playing mainly in the slot. Meanwhile, Mike Sainristil, the Commanders’ 2024 draft pick, and Amik Robertson, one of the team’s first free-agent signings of the 2026 offseason, bring more natural slot versatility to the mix. Safety Quan Martin adds another layer to the discussion, as he also has been cited as a potential slot defender. Both Robertson and Sainristil have considerable experience outside as well, having spent significant time there in their careers to date.
The survey question forced respondents to weigh several factors that aren’t fully known yet. How often will Daronte Jones deploy three-safety looks, and when he does, will that configuration remove a linebacker or a cornerback from the field? Will Mike Sainristil be a starter or a backup, and will his role tilt toward the slot or the outside? The same questions apply to Amik Robertson. And what is Rasul Douglas’s role in 2026? Does his one-year contract suggest a smaller, more situational role, or does it signal that he could emerge as a central figure in Washington’s defensive turnaround, potentially positioning himself for a bigger payday in 2027? Does his late-July addition imply a perceived lower priority, or might it indicate that Douglas evaluated his options and chose the arrangement that offers the best chance to play and succeed this year?
Honestly, we won’t know the definitive answers until well into training camp, and more likely, not until partway through the regular season. But Hogs Haven readers have spoken.

Mike Sainristil
By a margin of more than 3 to 1, respondents are clear that they believe in the team’s incumbent starting cornerback and 2024 second-round draft pick, Mike Sainristil, to see more defensive snaps in 2026 than Rasul Douglas, the newly signed free agent, or any other corner on the roster. The prevailing view suggests that Sainristil will be the starting outside corner in Daronte Jones’s defense, which is expected to lean toward a zone-cover scheme that plays to the strengths of the former Michigan Wolverines star wearing the “0” on his jersey.
If Sainristil begins on the outside, that likely means Amik Robertson will be the primary slot corner. It would seem unwise for the coaching staff to have Rasul Douglas or Ahkello Witherspoon, as nickel cover players, appear wide while Mik handles the outside duties, in order to preserve optimal personnel alignment and performance.
