The LSU Tigers football season is inching closer, now down to double digits on the countdown clock. Kickoff against the Clemson Tigers is now just 51 days away.As we continue to look back at the history of the Bayou Bandits to celebrate and prepare heading into the first game, there is also the matter of getting to know the current-day players.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementHere is a look at the past and present of No. 51 at LSU:Most of the offensive line is transfer players and a couple of returners, but they did bring in a couple of high school recruits. The lone interior pickup they made was Miret, a three-star out of Miami, Fla.The 247Sports composite rankings had Miret as the No. 44 player at his position in the class and the No. 69 player in the state. He isn’t the highest-ranked lineman, but taking athletes from Miami is usually not a bad idea.Lane Kiffin and his staff had been recruiting Miret for a while, and they clearly like what he brings. He was originally committed to the Ole Miss Rebels, but flipped to the Tigers in December. He probably won’t contribute right away, but is a nice piece for the future of the line.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementFugler is a true example of what the game used to be like, as he was a center/running back/defensive lineman at 6-foot-1 and just over 200 pounds. He was great at his role as he was a two-time All-American and was All-SEC, one of the leaders of the 1958 team that won the first National Championship in school history. He was eventually drafted by the San Francisco 49ers, but didn’t have much of an NFL career to note.Speaking of firsts in school history, Kavanaugh was LSU’s first All-American and one of the first real stars of the sport, thanks to his NFL career. He won three NFL championships in the early 40s. He was just bigger than a lot of people at that time, 6-foot-3, and used it to his advantage.
