Australia’s Cruz Hewitt has reached the Wimbledon boys’ final, coming 24 years after his father, Lleyton Hewitt, captured the men’s singles title at the tournament. The 17-year-old defeated Dutch opponent Thijs Boogaard 6-4 6-4 to secure a place in Sunday’s championship match, where he will face American Jordan Lee. This marks Hewitt’s fifth consecutive straight-sets victory at this year’s Championships, and he has only required a tie-break once during his impressive run.
Hewitt has enjoyed court-side support from his father throughout the event. Lleyton Hewitt, a former world No. 1, won the 2002 Wimbledon men’s final by defeating David Nalbandian and also claimed the 2001 US Open title, in addition to reaching the final of the 2005 Australian Open. Cruz, for his part, made his senior Grand Slam debut at the 2025 Australian Open after receiving a wildcard into qualifying, though he was defeated in the first round. He has now become Australia’s first boys’ singles finalist at Wimbledon since world No. 6 Alex de Minaur achieved the feat in 2016.
Lee’s path to the final was sealed with a 6-3 6-2 victory over Germany’s Vincent Reisach. The semi-finals also saw a dramatic run for Fery, whose Wimbledon journey was halted by Zverev in the semi-finals. The tie-break was a recurring theme in Hewitt’s ascent, with commentators noting that much of the match’s excitement revolved around the decisive mini-sets. As Hewitt eyes his first Wimbledon crown, the young Australian will look to emulate his father’s illustrious Wimbledon legacy in the boys’ category, while Lee seeks to upset the family tradition and claim the title on Sunday.
