Devin Lloyd Predicts Big Year From Jaguars’ Brian Thomas Jr.

Before they square off in a preseason game Friday night, the Jacksonville Jaguars and Carolina Panthers held a joint practice together on Wednesday. That gave former Jaguar Devin Lloyd a chance to catch up with his former teammates. Lloyd left Jacksonville for the Panthers as a free agent after his All-Pro 2025 season. One of the biggest questions surrounding the Jaguars all offseason was how the team would replace the elite linebacker play they received from Lloyd last year. Jacksonville decided against bringing in a high-profile addition to fill the void left by Lloyd, instead letting Ventrell Miller and Branson Combs compete for his old starting spot. That competition has been too close to declare a winner, and the team not naming a starter was one of the most interesting takeaways from its first unofficial depth chart.Another key question pivotal to Jacksonville’s success this season is how wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. will rebound from his miserable sophomore season. While the rest of the Jaguars’ offense flourished in its first year under head coach Liam Coen, BTJ struggled and couldn’t come close to replicating his Pro Bowl rookie season.Despite his struggles and his name being in constant trade rumors for months, the Jaguars did not lose their faith in Thomas and refused to part with him. So far, the talented WR has made the team’s decision to keep him look smart, as he has earned rave reviews for the improvements he made this offseason.Even though he is now a Panther, Lloyd took the time to talk about his former teammates  Wednesday and predicted a big season from the 23-year-old, as shared by Action Sports Jax.”All them guys, honestly, you know, looking good. I’d say everybody’s getting each other better. Iron sharpens iron. I seen BT make that one-handed catch in the back of the end zone…that was good to see from him. Just understanding the type of player he is and has been. It’s gonna be a big year for him.”Lloyd has seen the type of player Thomas can be and, like the Jaguars organization, is confident that he will prove last year’s struggles were a fluke. If BTJ plays to his potential, Jacksonville’s passing game could be one of the most lethal in the NFL. The team may have the league’s deepest and most talented quartet of receivers with Thomas, Jakobi Meyers, Parker Washington, and (sometimes) Travis Hunter.Thomas may be the most talented of the group, which is saying a lot. Final ThoughtsWatching Thomas’ play fall off a cliff last season was very difficult to understand. Under Coen’s offense, quarterback Trevor Lawrence had the best season of his career. Washington emerged as a star WR. Meyers came over in a midseason trade and became one of Lawrence’s most consistent and most trusted targets almost immediately.Seeing Thomas regress while everyone around him surged forward was baffling. He is determined to prove himself this season and has put in the work, which has been noticed and appreciated by Coen.Jacksonville’s offense
