Aug. 19—Lay of the landPriceville will be in Class 4A, Region 7 with Ardmore, Brooks, Deshler, Hamilton, Lawrence County, West Morgan and West Point.—Head coachAustin Burke is entering his first season. He previously spent the last two seasons as the defensive coordinator.—Last seasonThe Bulldogs (8-4, 4-2) finished third in Class 5A, Region 7 and advanced to the second round of the Class 5A playoffs.—Words to grow onDespite a coaching change, Burke said he believes having been at Priceville the last two years to help former coach Seth Parker lay a foundation will allow the team to avoid the growing pains Parker endured his first season when the team finished 2-8.”That’s my hope. We’ve kept a lot of things the same with the scheme and in the weight room,” Burke said. “I feel like we’ve done a good job of instilling a foundation here. My first year we struggled with kids missing practices or a workout the day after we had a hard day, and last year it was completely the opposite. It’s been the same way this offseason.”There’s an expectation and a standard here. We’ve been 2-8, we know what that feels like and we know the work it takes to have success like we did last year.”—QuarterbackPriceville must replace Sheldon Graham who was named first-team All-State by the Alabama Sports Writers Association last season.Returning is senior Jack Eubanks who split time at quarterback with Graham last year. Also expected to play is junior Brayden Graham. Burke said the two will split the role like Sheldon Graham and Eubanks did last year.”It’s going to be a rotation with both getting snaps at quarterback. Jack played a lot there last year and he’s our leader, but Brayden has had a great summer and is a dynamic guy, so he has to have his hands on the ball at some point,” Burke said.—OffenseNo matter who the head coach is, there’s always an expectation of the Bulldogs doing one thing: running the football. Burke said that identity will remain the same.”It’s always going to be run the ball around here,” Burke said. “We always have a great group of strong guys up front so why wouldn’t you try to be the most physical team you can be.”Priceville returns juniors Colton Madewell and Zavian Camel in the backfield. Owen Walker, another junior who missed last season due to injury, is also expected to command a heavy workload. At receiver, it returns Urijah Burnham who hauled in 42 catches for 719 yards and 11 touchdowns last year. Other receivers will be senior Casen Drawbaugh, junior Kellar Richey and sophomores Garrett Wilson and Tripp Sivley.—DefenseAlong the defensive line, senior Jay Patel returns at defensive end, Whitten returns at defensive tackle, Gullion and Wood return at nose guard and Walker will start at Priceville’s hybrid defensive end/linebacker position known as the bandit.Burke said he was excited about the potential of the group, particularly Patel.Senior Chase Couture will start at the middle linebacker position with other linebackers bei
