After signs of being content with the current room, whether the Washington Commanders opt to add another wide receiver reached another level this week with news on multiple veterans beginning to materialize. The Commanders reportedly checked on veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen this offseason with the 34 year old looking for a new home in hopes of a 13th NFL season. Whether Allen ultimately returns to Los Angeles for a 12th season could be another question, as would be the fit as a potential slot wide receiver given that’s where rookie Antonio Williams could take the majority of his snaps. Yet it’s a sign of the front office doing its due diligence on an already limited market with a handful of veterans atop the list of available wide receivers.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementOf course, arguably the biggest name is also a local one with Maryland native and NFL veteran Stefon Diggs looking for a new home after recording his eighth career 1,000 yard receiving season and first Super Bowl appearance. While his market could begin to heat up at the end of the month once training camp kick , he too was one the Commanders front office has checked on through the offseason as multiple outlets have pointed to the Commanders as a sensible fit ever since his legal matters were resolved and the NFL closed their investigation. On the contrary, the one-time obvious offseason acquisition candidate in Brandon Aiyuk has now trended toward unlikely territory given the ongoing noise paired with little to no resolution in the saga. After noting that he has no intention of changing his social media activity even if he signs with a team in 2026, the tide has started to turn on the former San Francisco wide receiver. What the Niners front office ultimately decide to do will be its own question, as will whether Washington ultimately makes a move on Aiyuk if the day comes that he is indeed released. Yet it’s possible that the constant noise has cost Aiyuk his spot with the Commanders after Adam Schefter of ESPN noted, “Aiyuk’s social media posts created an opening for Stefon Diggs, who played at Maryland, to go back to that area, take the spot that Brandon Aiyuk might’ve had.”For a team led by head coach Dan Quinn that has emphasized minimal distractions ahead of a pivotal season, it would mark a sensible direction, which may be trending as the growing expectation after Jeremy Fowler also noted on Tuesday he views Aiyuk-to-Washington as unlikely. Washington needs production, and with Diggs showing signs of being comfortable in a WR2 role, the path may be clear in Washington.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementFor Washington, maybe the bigger question ultimately becomes if not Diggs, then who?Commanders Roundtable also offers a fan community.
