The International Cricket Council (ICC) has not taken action regarding Ben Stokes’ retirement video. Stokes’ farewell to the England dressing room, in which he declared his retirement during the fourth day of last month’s final Test against New Zealand, apparently drew the attention of the sport’s global governing body. The video appeared on England’s social media pages and was subsequently shown on television, but under the ICC’s anti-corruption standards, there are rules about filming inside dressing rooms without prior authorization. It is believed the ICC sent a letter to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), though the issue has since been resolved. In response to reports about the ICC’s communication, Stokes teased on social media, joking, “Sack him.” The England captain had returned for the third Test after missing the second match of the series following an off-field incident. His retirement announcement on the fourth day came as a surprise, and it was made public while Stokes was bowling, with him taking a wicket with the very next ball. England went on to lose the match and the series 2-1 the following day.
