Eduardo Rivera – not Brayan Bello – starts as Red Sox go for 8 in a row against Mets

Brayan Bello hasn’t seemingly rekindled a romance with baseball the way Craig Breslow hoped he might. Or perhaps he’s fallen hard for Worcester instead. Either way, he won’t be drawing the start today in place of the injured Ranger Suárez. Instead, the Red Sox will turn to Eduardo Rivera, who has appeared for Boston just once this season—a clean, 3.1-inning relief stint against the Yankees back in April, during which he allowed only one hit and struck out three.
Rivera has spent the year in the WooSox bullpen, so don’t expect a lengthy outing from him tonight. And it’s a rough break for Boston that several key relievers have been active recently, with Garrett Whitlock and Tyron Guerrero throwing in consecutive games, likely rendering them unavailable for this matchup.
On the other mound, Freddy Peralta is mired in a rough patch in a challenging season, which could set the stage for a high-scoring affair. This one has the makings of a slugfest as the two clubs try to break out of their respective slumps.
First pitch is scheduled for 4:10 PM. You can catch the action on NESN or FS1.
