Manchester United risk losing out to Tottenham Hotspur as the North London club gears up for a substantial bid for Eli Junior Kroupi, according to the latest reports. Tottenham, who only just escaped relegation last season with a 1-0 victory over Everton on the final day, are intent on revamping Roberto De Zerbi’s squad this summer. The Italian manager believes the team’s weaknesses lie in the middle of the pitch and is pushing for a rebuild of the spine of the side.
A £52 million agreement for centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke has been finalized, alongside free transfers for Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson. This was followed by two record-breaking approaches for Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, with Spurs hijacking Manchester United’s pursuit of the latter. Fernandes, who plays for West Ham and has Bruno Fernandes as a personal idol, was previously thought to be leaning toward Old Trafford, but Tottenham surged into the race with an £85 million bid and a far stronger salary offer than that on the table in Manchester. United were unwilling to match these terms, and there was a belief Spurs would simply raise their offer if the Red Devils did so anyway. This prompted United to pivot toward Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos, with a £50 million deal for the 22-year-old Brazilian completed this week.
Tottenham are also looking to bolster De Zerbi’s attacking options, which could bring them into competition with United over another West Ham asset, Crysencio Summerville. The Dutch winger is considered INEOS’ No.1 target on the left flank, and talks with the Hammers are already exploratory. Yet Tottenham now threaten to land another top target on United’s radar: Bournemouth’s breakout star Kroupi. The 20-year-old made history last season by becoming the youngest player to reach double figures in the Premier League, having joined the Cherries from Lorient for £10 million last year. His 13 Premier League goals in his debut campaign have cemented him as one of Europe’s most promising talents, drawing interest from virtually every major club in England, including Manchester United, as well as clubs on the continent.
While a midfield rebuild remains United’s priority, they are also weighing a bid for a winger and a more reliable striker than Joshua Zirkzee. Kroupi, who can operate across the forward line, would be flexible enough to cover multiple attacking roles. Scouts have been attending matches at the Vitality Stadium regularly at the request of sporting director Jason Wilcox. A report relayed by The People’s Person noted that INEOS want a “young icon” to spearhead their project, underscoring the high-stakes race for Kroupi’s signature as summer approach. As the situation unfolds, United’s strategic planning continues, but Tottenham’s persistent pursuit of Kroupi introduces a fresh twist in the transfer saga surrounding one of Europe’s most exciting young talents.
