Fan Friday: The loudest times our readers have heard Arrowhead Stadium

By admin — In News — July 10, 2026

This week, Arrowhead Pride asked Kansas City Chiefs fans to share their memories of Arrowhead Stadium at its loudest. The stadium may hold the Guinness World Record for the loudest crowd roar at 142.2 decibels, but there are countless other electrifying moments in its modern history. For me, no memory tops the game-sealing interception by safety Husain Abdullah that returned for a touchdown to beat the Oakland Raiders in Week 6 of 2013, preserving an undefeated start under head coach Andy Reid. With under two minutes to play and a comfortable 10-point lead, the Chiefs’ defense closed it out in style, tallying nine sacks and three interceptions on a day that had Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor under siege all afternoon. Pryor had lofted a second-and-10 pass that had set up the original record roar at 137.5 decibels. When Abdullah crossed the goal line, it sounded as if the ground itself trembled beneath us, the roar reaching a deafening peak before the crowd briefly settled into a stunned silence and then erupted once more into the familiar Sea of Red chorus.
That season felt different for me, too. I was in high school as a sophomore, and I remember realizing that Reid was in a different stratosphere of coaching compared with Herm Edwards and Todd Haley. The Arrowhead atmosphere that year felt electric, proof of how revitalized Chiefs Kingdom had become in the wake of Reid’s arrival—a decision that, in hindsight, ranks among the best the Hunt family has ever made for the franchise. Here are some of the best fan submissions from the community, with links to the plays on YouTube when available:
One fan recalls being at the Raiders game and writes, “Yep, I was there too. My wife was pregnant with our first, and she said he was kicking like crazy after that 137.5 roar. I like to think he was cheering on the Chiefs rather than complaining about the noise.” Another fan remembers the moment Mahomes hit Travis Kelce to set up the field in the famous 13 seconds game against the Bills, a moment that has become a defining highlight of the Patrick Mahomes era in Kansas City. That’s the AFC Divisional Round matchup from the 2021 season—watch the play here.
December 9, 2018 also stands out for another fan who recalls Pat Mahomes to Tyreek Hill on 4th down against the Ravens. The reaction, they say, was another example of a crowd that always brings its A-game. Ron Kopp Jr. adds, “Great one. That really did bring out a louder-than-normal crowd pop, and the 4th-and-goal TD to Damien Williams did, too.” I was at the record-setting Monday Night Football game against the Patriots in 2014, and it was the loudest I’ve ever heard the stadium. I might have even spilled a few beers on the Patriots fans in front of me—oops.
We also made it to the 2019 Chiefs-Texans Divisional Round matchup, the famous 24-point comeback. After scoring two straight touchdowns to trim the deficit from 24-14, Sorenson forced a fumble on the kickoff, turning the tide and fueling another wave of roar that reminded everyone why Arrowhead remains one of the league’s most intimidating environments.
If you have a memory you’d like to share, feel free to add your story in the comments or send a note with your favorite play. Arrowhead is a place where the smallest moment can feel like a seismic shift, and the loudest nights become part of Chiefs Kingdom lore.
