Fenerbahce have grown increasingly confident that they can sign Mason Greenwood from Marseille, with the Turkish club showing openness to a deal for the 24-year-old former Manchester United forward. Both Fenerbahce and Roma have been linked with Greenwood throughout the summer, and the club’s presidential contenders had already indicated their interest prior to the elections held at the start of June. At this stage, Fenerbahce believe a transfer could be completed for around 45 million euros (£38.36 million) with Marseille, a figure that could tempt Greenwood, who has scored 48 goals in 76 appearances in all competitions since his £26.6 million move from United in July 2024.
When Greenwood left United, the club announced they had negotiated a sizeable sell-on fee, reportedly around 40 percent, should the move materialize. An internal inquiry led United to conclude that Greenwood would not be returning to the club, a decision rendered after charges of attempted rape and assault against him were dropped in February 2023. Following his departure from United, Greenwood joined Getafe on loan for the 2023-24 season.
In football terms, Greenwood enjoyed a productive spell last season, finishing joint second in the Ligue 1 golden boot race for the 2025-26 season, tied with Esteban Lepaul of Rennes on 16 goals. Back in Turkey, Fenerbahce finished second in the Turkish Super Lig for the fifth consecutive season and are preparing to face Polish side Gornik Zabrze in the second qualifying round of the Champions League later this month.
As the transfer window continues, the latest Football Daily podcast provides further thoughts on the evolving situation and its implications for the European transfer market, including potential shifts in Fenerbahce’s strategy and Greenwood’s career trajectory.
