FIFA selling the field to be used for the World Cup final in $450 pieces

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — The turf destined for the World Cup final could itself become a saleable item. FIFA, facing criticism for high prices tied to this year’s U.S.-hosted tournament, is offering segments of the MetLife Stadium field that will host the July 19 final, at a price of $450 per piece. The FIFA Store lists each turf segment as measuring 17.5 by 17.5 by 17.5, though it does not specify whether those dimensions are inches, centimeters, or millimeters. Requests for clarification about the exact size were not immediately answered by the governing body via email.
The product description on the site reads, “Own a genuine piece of football history with an authentic 2026 FIFA World Cup Piece of the pitch, permanently preserved in a premium acrylic with a USB keepsake.” It adds that each piece bears an original fragment of the iconic final playing surface, making it a distinctive collectible that marks one of the world’s premier sporting events. FIFA’s accompanying note explains that “the acrylic USB features an authenticity film, while offering a sleek, contemporary display piece. Presented in a premium hinged shoulder box with striking spot UV detailing, this exclusive item is designed for collectors, fans, and football enthusiasts alike.”
The turf is being offered for sale to addresses in the United States and Europe only, FIFA stated. Orders will not be shipped until after the World Cup 2026 Final has concluded. Separately, players and coaches have criticized the condition of the MetLife surface, which traditionally accommodates NFL games for the New York Giants and Jets with an artificial surface.
In parallel, FIFA is listing regular tickets for the final at up to $32,970, while hospitality packages that include food and drinks cost $34,500 and $32,500, respectively. This pricing comes as part of a broader discussion about the cost of attendance and the accessibility of top-tier matches for fans.
