Former Lions Star Linked To Matthew Stafford And The Rams

Taylor Decker’s tenure with the Detroit Lions has officially ended after the veteran left tackle and the organization could not reach a contract agreement. After negotiations for a new deal stalled earlier this offseason, Decker requested his release, and Detroit granted the request. He remains a free agent ahead of the 2026 NFL season and it won’t be long before teams convene for Training Camp.
A recent development with the Los Angeles Rams could create a pathway for Decker to reunite with quarterback Matthew Stafford, with whom he spent five seasons in Detroit. Last month, Rams left tackle Alaric Jackson was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery at his San Fernando Valley home. While that situation was being resolved, Brad Berreman of SideLion Report suggested the Rams could be a natural landing spot for Decker, noting that he spent the first five seasons protecting Stafford’s blindside in Detroit. Berreman wrote that the Rams, as an organization known for going “all-in,” would present an attractive opportunity for Decker, who would likely be pursuing a Super Bowl ring in Los Angeles while providing protection for Stafford. The prospect of a reunion also appealed to Rams Insider John Sbisa of Ramblin’ Fan, who supported the idea of Decker chasing the elusive championship that the Lions were unable to win with Stafford in Detroit.
Sbisa argued that reuniting former Lions offensive lineman Taylor Decker with Matthew Stafford in Los Angeles had evolved from an outside notion to a genuine option for even the most cautious fans to consider. He added that Decker could serve as a valuable, though perhaps costly, insurance policy. The Rams have reasons to consider such a move: a suspension or absence by Jackson could jeopardize the frontline as they chase another deep playoff run, and Decker would have a persuasive pitch to join a championship quest with Stafford, potentially at a discounted rate given the chance to win a title.
In other news, Rams left tackle Alaric Jackson received a favorable legal development this week when prosecutors decided not to pursue criminal charges following his June arrest on suspicion of domestic violence. NBC Los Angeles reported that the City Attorney’s Office chose not to file charges, though the investigation remains open. Prosecutors may still direct Jackson toward alternative resolutions, such as community service or educational programs. While this development marks progress for the veteran lineman, the matter is not fully resolved, and the path forward for Jackson remains uncertain.
