​German national team coach Jens Zemke has not given up hope that star rider Florian Lipowitz can recover in time from a collarbone fracture in time to compete at the world championships in Canada at the end of September.Lipowitz suffered the injury when he crashed during Tuesday’s time trial at the Tour de France. He has undergone surgery and has started rehabilitation.Zemke said he remains upbeat that Lipowitz, who came third at last year’s Tour and was fifth when the crash happened, can be fit again for the September 20-27 worlds in Montréal.Zemke told dpa that if everything goes well a rider can race again six weeks after such an injury.”I consider it realistic. A collarbone fracture is not the end of the world,” he said.Lipowitz’ Red Bull-Bora hansgrohe team boss Ralph Denk said previously he expects Lipowitz to return to action before the end of the season.Lipowitz did not compete at last year’s worlds in Rwanda but Zemke said that he had shown interest in being part of the team this year. Zemke said that he is in contact with Lipowitz and hopes that he still has the desire to be at the global event.Zemke said that, crash aside, he was happy with Lipowitz’ overall performances at the Tour because “we have someone who is riding for the podium.”
