Giants’ Theo Johnson, Jevon Holland ruled out for Week 7 vs. Texans

More injuries have hit the Giants roster.Tight end Theo Johnson and safety Jevon Holland have been downgraded to out for Sunday’s Week 7 matchup at the Houston Texans, leaving a New York roster already reeling from the loss of quarterback Jaxson Dart, outside linebacker Brian Burns, and linebacker Tremaine Edmunds without two more of its starters on either side of the ball.Johnson, who was ruled doubtful in the Giants’ injury report released Friday but downgraded Saturday afternoon, suffered a neck injury in Week 5 and sat out last weekend’s loss to the New Orleans Saints. His continued absence could be a barrier for the Giants’ offense, who will be looking for any sort of familiarity as QB J.J. McCarthy gets his first start in blue.Holland (concussion) joins two other key defensive players ruled out this week: Edmunds, who played every defensive snap before sustaining a season-ending shoulder injury, and cornerback Greg Newsome II, who also has a concussion.Four other players — cornerback Paulson Adebo (knee), right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor (calf), offensive lineman Marcus Mbow (knee), and safety Tyler Nubin (neck) — were listed as questionable for Sunday’s contest. However, per ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, Adebo may be activated from IR sometime Saturday. The veteran corner was first sidelined in Week 2 with a knee injury and missed each of the next five games. He returned to practice Wednesday, a much-welcomed bright spot for the struggling New York secondary.
