Guardians News – A Loss, A Hit, and Lots of Walks

   ​The Cleveland Guardians and the Minnesota Twins battled back and forth, tying the game and pushing it into the ninth inning. Slade didn’t go deep into the game, which left the bullpen stretched thin. The trouble worsened as the pitching staff issued eight walks, and Tim Herrin was struck on the back of his throwing elbow. Zack Meisel reported that Herrin’s X-ray came back negative, but it was clear from the way he left the mound that he was in a lot of pain. Meanwhile, despite not playing in weeks, José Ramírez remains near the top of the Outs Above Average leaderboard, with Daniel Schneemann quickly climbing the list. Quincy examined Kyle Manzardo and the current situation he faces as a hitter. Matt Dallas offered a quick scouting note on the top pitchers available in the upcoming draft. Will Benson cleared waivers and was outrighted to Louisville. Stuart Fairchild was picked up by the Mariners on a minor league deal.
Two familiar names will be joining the Mets: Xzavion Curry and Tobias Myers have been promoted to the major league roster. Justin Verlander announced his retirement after this season, a development that followed the news that he would be the Legend Pick for this year’s All-Star Game. Jac Caglianone and Willson Contreras will participate in the Home Run Derby. The All-Star Ball Crew was announced, with Kayla Corbett of the White Sox and Genevieve Ortega-Alves of the Padres serving as this year’s ball crew.
In league news, the Women’s Professional Baseball League unveiled the four teams that will comprise its inaugural season: the Boston Hunters, New York Heights, Los Angeles Queens, and San Francisco Firebells. They will begin play on August 1, with each team named to honor historic and influential women from its city. The rosters feature outstanding logos and jerseys designed to celebrate these cities’ legacies.
