Following his super welterweight title win to claim two belts, Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis joined Ring Magazine’s panel to discuss his career, how he views his fighting style, and where his focus is as he looks forward to the next page in his career. Check out some excerpts of what he had to say below.“It adds a lot to my game. Both my brothers been around the block, my dad been around the block. They was former fighters as well, so they know, and they’ve been on the highest stages possible so they know what it takes and they been in the ring and basically whatever they say, I do. Because I know they see something I can’t see, so it’s great having them around.”AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement“I feel like I’m a boxer-puncher but I really do what I want, for real. I can do whatever I want in the ring. And that’s another thing, each and every fight I’m giving ya’ll something different. This last fight I gave ya’ll some dog work, the fight before that I gave ya’ll a first round knockout, the fight when I fought Stanionis I was boxing and moving and not getting hit.“I feel like I’m a variety bag of chips. Whatever you want, you have.”“Everybody ask me about it all the time. I did my part. I thought the fight was done after he fought Lubin…I started training for that fight in January ‘cause we was supposed to fight in March, then we was supposed to fight in April, then we was supposed to fight in May, then we wind up fighting Zayas. So I technically kind of trained for five months for Zayas because they switched my opponent.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement“Right now my task is belts…I got two belts in this division and my goal is to be undisputed and that’s what I’m going to do. So bring on these next champions.”“Let that man be happily retired. He said what he said and he said it’s the Boots’ era. So let him retire, let him enjoy himself. Of course that was a fight that I wanted — I always wanted to fight him, Errol Spence, those guys coming up, but at the end of the day it didn’t go that way.“All the top guys back then, Errol Spence, Thurman was hot back then, like all those guys, Shawn Porter. I wanted all those guys back then but they was saying I was high risk/low reward and I got that my whole career. Everything happens for a reason, though. Perfect timing.”
