Is Caitlin Clark Playing Tonight? Latest Injury Update On Fever Star For Aces Clash

Caitlin Clark continues to work her way back from a nagging back injury that sidelined her for three of the Indiana Fever’s last four games. She logged 16 minutes on Wednesday in Los Angeles against the Sparks before missing Thursday’s highly anticipated showdown with the Phoenix Mercury. On Saturday, Fever coach Stephanie White provided the latest update on Clark’s status for Sunday’s matchup with the Las Vegas Aces.
Clark has appeared on Indiana’s injury report this season with back discomfort, and the issue flared up again during the June 24 game versus the Mercury after she stepped on Valériane Ayayi’s foot, forcing her to leave the contest in the third quarter. Between three missed games, she played in Los Angeles against the Sparks with a minutes restriction of under one minute in some stretches. White indicated that approach would continue for Sunday’s game in Las Vegas. WNBA insider Chloe Peterson relayed White’s update: Caitlin Clark will have a 20-25 minute restriction on Sunday, and they’re not going to do the 3-minute bursts.
Clark’s performance against the Sparks was hampered by the pacing, as the Fever managed her in 2- to 3-minute spurts. She finished with 9 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists, but also turned the ball over four times. After Indiana’s 106-92 loss to Los Angeles, Clark spoke to the media about her comeback, saying she has “responded well” to workouts.
“I’m such a competitor, and I feel like I can play more, but that can get you in trouble,” Clark said. “It’s a long season, a long year, and a couple of games like this aren’t going to derail me. I just need to get my feel back, and it’ll be OK overall.” In that same postgame interview, she noted that she did not feel particularly winded and described her condition as a win given the way her body has been feeling. White acknowledged the difficulty of managing Clark’s restrictions but stressed that the Fever are prioritizing her long-term health.
Last season, Clark earned the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year honors but played only 13 games due to a string of injuries, making the Fever’s cautious approach understandable. Despite her absence, Indiana delivered a strong performance, dismantling the one-time champion A’ja Wilson-less squad 84-68 in a recent clash.
Clark missed the Fever’s game against the defending champions about a week ago. In her absence, Indiana toppled the Aces by 16 points, a result that underscored the team’s resilience. The anticipated rematch could tell a different story, especially with Wilson returning from an ankle issue and expected to start. Wilson showed she was ready to contribute after scoring 32 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and dishing 3 assists with 2 steals and 2 blocks in 30 minutes against the Portland Fire.
For fans and followers seeking updates on Clark’s status, the Fever’s approach remains conservative but purposeful, aiming to preserve the star guard’s health for the stretch run of the season. The team’s careful management of her workload aligns with a broader strategy to keep Clark fresh for crucial late-season contests, playoff positioning, and potential postseason success. As Indiana prepares for a challenging slate ahead, the hope is that Clark’s back will continue to improve, allowing her to contribute more meaningful minutes and help the Fever maximize their ceiling in a competitive conference race.
