Jaguars training camp battles: Who earns final roster spots at cornerback?

By admin — In News — July 8, 2026

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ Training camp is a little over a month away, and as part of our preview, we’ll assess each positional battle that’s likely to unfold. What happened during the offseason programs laid a solid foundation for these competitions and gave us some initial indicators of where things might stand. Yet, what takes place in camp and the preseason will ultimately decide who clinches the roles.
First up is the cornerback group. It appears the top of the depth chart is fairly well established. Travis Hunter and Montaric Brown are slated to start on the outside, Jourdan Lewis should handle nickel duties, and Jarrian Jones projects as the first option off the bench. The remainder of the depth chart, however, still has questions to answer. Most teams carry five or six cornerbacks, which means there will likely be one or two spots up for grabs.
One standout from the offseason programs was second-year UDFA Jabbar Muhammad. After the initial minicamp practice, head coach Liam Coen praised his progress. The very next day, defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile echoed that sentiment. “I think he’s improved a ton,” Campanile said. “But just watching him, he’s really been super detailed with his technique. I think that’s one of the things that shows up. Very, very deliberate in how he’s practicing, and I think that’s created some takeaways for him and made plays on the ball. He just always seems to be near the action right now. So he’s really done a great job and improved a bunch this spring.”
Christian Braswell is another name that will be in the mix for a roster spot. He logged 160 defensive snaps over the second half of last season, giving him valuable experience to draw on this time around.
While Braswell and Muhammad appear to be frontrunners for the final two roster spots, another UDFA to watch is Preston Hodge. Hodge made some plays during OTAs, and that continued to turn heads as the spring work progressed.
My early projection is that the Jaguars will carry six cornerbacks, with Hunter still contributing in a versatile two-way role. This would give the team additional depth and flexibility. Considering Braswell’s familiarity from last season and Muhammad’s strong spring performance, I would lean toward including both players in an initial 53-man roster outlook. If the roster had to be set today, those two would likely be among the final cuts or additions, depending on camp performance and how special teams roles shake out.
