The NFL announced Jacksonville Jaguars safety Rayuan Lane III is the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts against the Indianapolis Colts. He joins Foye Oluokun as players who’ve won the award for the Jaguars this season. The second-year player was called into action early in the game when veteran safety Eric Murray exited the contest with a season-ending elbow injury.Lane recorded four total tackles, three pass deflections, a quarterback hit and a 92-yard pick-six in the dismantling of the Colts. He’s been leaned upon more as the Jaguars navigate injuries in their secondary.Finding his stride: Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence says he has never been more consistent. Why?In Jacksonville’s win against the Cincinnati Bengals, Lane was called on to replace Caleb Ransaw. He recorded a career-high eight total tackles with six solo tackles.Typically, he’s a special teams ace as one of the best gunners in the league. But Lane has shown he can be a dependable defensive contributor for the Jaguars as they try to replace Murray’s veteran presence.RAYUAN LANE III PICK-SIXINDvsJAX on CBS/Paramount+Stream on @NFLPluspic.twitter.com/bZN2FaLptY— NFL (@NFL) November 1, 2026“Rayuan Lane III, arguably played one of his best games as a Jaguar,” head coach Liam Coen told reporters earlier in the week. “Takeaway even the interception. Pick-six was a phenomenal play and all, but his communication throughout the game, helping with checks, getting us in and out of things.”The performance against Indianapolis could be a launching pad for Lane moving forward. The Jaguars will need him as Murray is out for the season and there hasn’t been a timeline placed on Ransaw’s injury.Lane and the Jaguars will play the Baltimore Ravens on Nov. 5 at 8:15 p.m. on Thursday Night Football. This article originally appeared on Florida Times-Union: Jaguars’ Rayuan Lane named AFC Defensive Player of the Week
