Jim Nagy’s influence helped keep Isaiah Sategna in Norman

When the Oklahoma Sooners appointed Jim Nagy as the program’s general manager, the decision was widely hailed as one of the most astute front-office hires in college football. Very few in the sport possess Nagy’s rare blend of NFL scouting experience and deep college personnel know-how, and that combination has quickly earned him a reputation as one of football’s top talent evaluators. Since taking on the role, he has built a formidable personnel staff designed to help Oklahoma navigate recruiting, the transfer portal, and NFL evaluations. Nagy spent 17 seasons in the NFL, serving in scouting roles for the then-Washington Redskins, the New England Patriots, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Seattle Seahawks. He later transitioned to college football leadership as the executive director of the Senior Bowl, the sport’s premier all-star showcase for NFL draft prospects, a position he held from 2018 through 2025.
Oklahoma’s wide receiver Isaiah Sategna has already felt the impact of Nagy’s expertise firsthand. Sategna noted that conversations with Nagy played a significant role in his decision to return for another season rather than declare for the NFL draft. “Just having a general manager who has all those connections, he laid it out for me,” Sategna said. “What he had to say made returning for another year the smarter move. It gives me a chance to show what I can do, and then go to the league.”
For Oklahoma, Nagy’s hiring extended beyond evaluating high school recruits or in-season transfer portal additions. It was also about granting current players access to someone who truly understands what NFL teams are seeking. If Sategna’s decision is any indicator, Nagy is already making a meaningful difference by guiding players toward choices that optimize both their college careers and their professional futures. This evolving influence underscores the program’s commitment to aligning its players’ ambitions with the realities of NFL scrutiny and the opportunities that exist within Oklahoma’s program.
