​Following the 2026 NBA Summer League, the Sacramento Kings have to be feeling pretty good about their incoming rookie class.No. 7 overall pick Darius Acuff Jr. leads the charge for Sacramento’s next generation, having posted one of the best collegiate seasons from a freshman point guard in recent memory.As NBA 2K ramps up for 2K27, the game has begun to release player rankings for some of the top players in the league, most recently revealing the top-10 highest rated rookies.Acuff came in at a 75 overall, tied with Los Angeles Clippers guard Keaton Wagler.Tied for fifth-highest rating seems fair for Acuff, who showed flashes, but struggled with inefficiency in Las Vegas.In the California Classic and Las Vegas portion, Acuff averaged 19 points, 5.3 assists, and one steal, displaying his dual-threat ability as a passer and scorer.However, Acuff’s shooting splits were not strong, as he shot just 36.5% from the field, 26.3% from deep, and 64.3% from the free-throw line.Some of this can be attributed to the way Acuff was being covered, as most teams opted to blitz him, forcing the ball out of his hands and making it difficult for the lottery pick to get to his spots.Acuff’s best scoring performance was in his first game of his professional career, as he dropped 25 against the Brooklyn Nets in the California Classic.However, efficiency was once again a struggle, as the former Razorback made just 9-of-29 attempts.This has not lessened the confidence the front office and coaching staff has in Acuff, however, as a Kings front office executive called him a “true franchise guy” following his showing.While most of Acuff’s attributes within 2K remain to be seen, his speed with ball is currently the only statistic to be revealed, coming in at a 90 overall.This rating ranks within the top-10 league-wide, and is well deserved, as Acuff gets down the court in a hurry.The prospect of Acuff and 3-time All Star Zach LaVine running in transition is exciting for head coach Doug Christie and his staff, as Acuff has no problem pushing the ball up the court and finding slashers on the wing.After drawing comparisons to NBA greats like recent Finals MVP Jalen Brunson, Acuff made it known that while he appreciates the comp, he is looking to write his own story.This confidence has been evident dating back to the pre-draft process, where Acuff said he believes he is the best player in the class, regardless of where he fell.Ultimately, he landed with the franchise who was involved the most in Acuff’s pre-draft, and with a front office and staff that believes he is the guy to accelerate the rebuild in Sac Town.
