Burnley have reportedly agreed to sell Loum Tchaouna to Coventry City in a deal that will also benefit Lazio. The French winger enjoyed a breakout season with Salernitana in 2023/24, which prompted Lazio to shell out around €9 million to sign him in the summer of 2024. However, his time at Formello under Marco Baroni was underwhelming, contributing just two goals and one assist in 37 appearances.
Despite his underwhelming spell in the Italian capital, Tchaouna still secured a €13 million move to Burnley last summer. Once again, though, he failed to meet expectations. In 29 Premier League appearances for the Clarets, he managed two goals and one assist, and Burnley eventually faced relegation to the Championship.
On Friday, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that the 22-year-old is set to continue in the Premier League for another season, joining newly promoted Coventry City in what outlets described as a surprising deal. The Sky Blues are expected to spend around £20 million, fulfilling the request of head coach Frank Lampard, who personally pushed for the player’s arrival.
According to La Lazio Siamo Noi, the Biancocelesti will welcome this transfer, having negotiated a 10% sell-on fee when selling Tchaouna to Burnley last summer. That arrangement would see Lazio receive approximately £2 million, or about €2.4 million, from the deal.
This potential payout could come at a crucial time for Lazio, who are navigating a financially tight period. The club has operated with a net-zero transfer strategy, meaning they can only finance new signings through funds generated by departures. The forthcoming sale proceeds would provide a timely financial boost, enabling Lazio to explore future reinforcements while maintaining their cautious approach to spending.
