Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold (No. 6) is pictured during mini camp at the Meijer Performance Center in Allen Park on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. Arnold was released by the Lions this week after being arrested on felony charges of armed robbery and kidnapping last week. The former Alabama Crimson Tide star posted a $1 million bond on Tuesday and is now a free agent just two seasons after being selected 24th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft by the Lions. Arnold’s attorney, Harvey Steinberg, said that even after his client’s release, he was already drawing interest from several NFL teams.
Lions linked with veteran cornerback after Arnold release. In a recent piece on the best free-agent bargains still available, Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton connected the Lions with former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs as a potential replacement for Arnold. “Two years ago, Trevon Diggs would’ve been a big-ticket free agent. He has two Pro Bowl seasons and one All-Pro campaign on his résumé,” Moton wrote. “Diggs appeared in one regular-season game and played one defensive snap in the playoffs with the Packers, who cut him in January. Once a ball hawk in the Cowboys’ secondary, Diggs can rediscover his top form if healthy ahead of the 2026 term. He finished the 2025 season without an interception, but if the six-year veteran makes it through training camp with another club, he could contribute in nickel and dime packages.”
Diggs signed a five-year, $97 million extension with the Cowboys in 2023 before tearing his ACL in practice, ending that season early. The following year, a groin injury and a lingering knee issue kept him out of several games, and he was released after a decline in play and after declining to board a team flight following a Christmas Day game against Washington. Diggs was claimed off waivers by the Green Bay Packers, appeared in the season’s final game and the Wild Card game, but was released again. He totaled 27 tackles (20 solo) last season and earned a PFN Cornerback Impact score of 60.6, ranking No. 123 in the league.
In contrast, Arnold last season produced a PFN Cornerback Impact score of 72.4, ranking No. 77 in the league, with 31 total tackles (23 solo), eight passes defended, and one interception for the Lions. This update reflects Arnold’s status and the ongoing discussions surrounding his future amid free agency.
