Australian opener Chris Lynn smashed a 49-ball century to help Northamptonshire Steelbacks ease past Glamorgan and seal their place in the T20 Blast quarter-finals. Lynn struck 117 from 56 balls, his second T20 hundred of the season, setting the platform for a comfortable 53-run victory for the Central & West Group leaders over Glamorgan, whose hopes of qualification for the last eight took a hit in the process.
Defending champions Somerset have surged back into contention after winning by 27 runs at Derbyshire. Jason Roy reached an unbeaten 103 as Surrey cemented their grip on second spot in the South Group with an eight-wicket win at the Oval, while Middlesex stunned group leaders Hampshire Hawks with a five-wicket victory to keep their already slim chances of progressing alive.
In the North Group, Durham crushed Leicestershire Foxes by eight wickets to stay in the mix for qualification. Men’s T20 Blast scores and fixtures, as well as the T20 Blast tables, continue to shape the race for the quarter-finals. Lynn struck 10 fours and seven sixes in his century for Northamptonshire, the side having won as many games (nine) and collected as many points (36) as any team in the competition so far this season. The Steelbacks had suffered a solitary loss, against Somerset in a one-sided affair on Sunday, but returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion to secure their spot in the knockout stages.
Ben Kellaway was Glamorgan’s standout bowler with figures of 3-22, yet Lynn’s century, complemented by brisk 25s from both Ricardo Vasconcelos and Saif Zaib, propelled Northants to 217-7 from their 20 overs in Cardiff. Glamorgan responded with early momentum as captain Kiran Carlson hit 42, but after his dismissal in the seventh over, Northants tightened the screws, reducing the Welsh side from 65-2 to 164 all out. Calvin Harrison claimed 3-20, while Zaib (2-27) and James Sales (2-21) helped Northants mangle the home batting lineup.
In other results, Will Smeed’s 89 helped Somerset to 214-6, with Martin Andersson taking 3-33 as they refused to give up hope of defending their title. That left North Group strugglers Derbyshire with a tall order, eventually falling short at 187-7 as Falco skipper Aneurin Donald blasted 65 from 27 balls to lift them to 74-2 inside six overs, only for Derbyshire to stall after the dismissal of Harry Came for 28 to Daniel Sams (3-29) in the 11th over. Wayne Madsen contributed 43, but Somerset were comfortable winners in the end, though they will likely need two wins from their final two games to stand any chance of progressing.
Jason Roy’s century for Surrey was a pivotal moment in their chase of 177, driving them toward victory. Roy’s 103 from 58 balls helped the hosts reach their target with room to spare, while George Thomas added 57 and James Coles remained unbeaten on 42 as Surrey strengthened their hold on a knockout berth. With the group stages continuing, the race for a quarter-final place remains wide open, and clubs across the North and South Groups are pushing hard to secure a late-season surge.
