Manchester’s Avakov wins national swimming title

   ​Manchester resident Alexei Avakov won the 100-meter breaststroke at the Toyota USA Swimming National Championships on Saturday in Irvine, California.Avakov, an Indiana University junior, won the event in 58.87 seconds, tying Cody Miller for the sixth-fastest time in the event by an American.Last March, Avakov earned All-America honors in the 100-yard breaststroke with his sixth-place time (50.58) at the NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships.In high school, Avakov competed for Manchester Central and attended The Founders Academy. As a senior, he set both the NHIAA and University of New Hampshire pool record in the 100-yard breaststroke (55.24) at the 2024 NHIAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships.
