McInnes hints at imminent Rangers arrivals

Manager Derek McInnes has indicated that Rangers could conclude additional signings before their Wednesday friendly against St-Etienne at Ibrox. The Light Blues, who finished third in last season’s Scottish Premiership, have already bolstered their squad with six new arrivals, including Lawrence Shankland and Cammy Devlin, both of whom followed McInnes from Tynecastle to Ibrox.
“The club has done brilliant work at this moment in time to try and bring in the additions that we clearly needed,” McInnes said in a club media interview conducted at the team’s training camp in Spain. “We want to make sure we are a more rounded squad when it comes to the positions we’re ready for, but the work will be ongoing. We’re still looking to try and get a couple of things done ahead of the St-Etienne game. We’re two weeks away from Dundee United [opening day of the league campaign], and I feel that the fitness of the players is a lot better and stronger than where we want it to be, from when we set off a couple of weeks ago.”
Rangers wrapped up their training camp with a 2-2 draw against Johor Darul Ta’zim, the Malaysian Super League champions, a result McInnes described as “a good test against a team who are well up and running in their season.” The latest additions are expected to infuse further quality and depth as the squad gears up for the new campaign.
Devlin, Ivor Pandur and Thelo Aasgaard are due to join training on Monday after their commitments at the World Cup, and McInnes welcomed the “jag of quality” these players will bring to the squad. McInnes, who guided Hearts to second place last season, also underscored the critical role of team cohesion in the early stages of his tenure.
“I want us to be more together as a squad,” he stated. “What we have is a lot of good individuals, and we saw signs of that last season—Rangers, at times, were really strong. Individually, players were at a good level, but when it came to it, we needed to be more of a team. I really want to build that work ethic, that togetherness that gets you through tough times.”
As the club eyes further reinforcements ahead of the St-Etienne friendly, the focus remains on completing a balanced, cohesive unit capable of contending on multiple fronts. The philosophy is clear: add quality where needed, harmonize personalities into a unified team, and maintain momentum ahead of Dundee United’s league opener. For Rangers supporters, the next few days hold the promise of further strengthening moves that could shape the trajectory of the club’s campaign, both domestically and in Europe, as the season approaches.
