One of the major bright spots in what has been a frustrating year for Michigan State football has been on special teams. That’s not a surprise from a unit helmed by special teams coaching legend LeVar Woods, but it’s still notable. On the kicking side, MSU has found a tremendous kicker in Liam Boyd, who transferred to the Spartans from Charlotte. On Wednesday, it was announced that Boyd has made the watchlist for the Burlsworth Trophy, which is given to the top former walk-on in college football.Boyd started his career as a walk-on at Clemson before transferring to North Carolina. After two seasons with the Tar Heels, Boyd transferred to Charlotte and will now finish his college career with the Spartans. Some notable Burlsworth Trophy winners are Baker Mayfield (two-time winner), Hunter Renfrow, and, of course, former Michigan State star Kenny Willekes.Contact/Follow us @The SpartansWire on X, and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Michigan State news, notes, and opinion.
