MLB Power Rankings, Award Tracker: An All-Star break vibe check

By admin — In News — July 11, 2026

Each week, The California Post power-ranks MLB’s 30 teams and checks in on one compelling awards race. In this edition, we take a midseason pulse check on every club as we head toward the All-Star break, with records through Saturday morning. Vibes are high but restless. The two-time defending champions have built an insurmountable lead in the National League West, and October remains the immediate target. Their primary challenge now is staying healthy for the rest of the season, a task that feels more daunting after Friday’s update on Ohtani’s lingering knee issue. (Last week: 1st)
Vibes are optimistic, yet cautiously so. Brewers fans have witnessed strong regular seasons before, but their main hope now is sustained October success after reaching just two National League Championship Series in seven playoff appearances since 2018. Jacob Misiorowski’s dominance adds renewed momentum, and a strong deadline addition could offer a further boost. (Last week: 2nd)

Vibes are back to normal, thankfully. The Rays have returned to the Trop and remain solid contenders, thriving once more on their signature mix of affordable contributors and standout performers who overachieve. (Last week: 4th)
Vibes are still on the rise. The Phillies have cooled somewhat, their bid to overtake the Braves at the top of the division slipping to three games back. Yet with the All-Star Game on the horizon, the season still holds salvageable promise; a far cry from the uncertain path seen in April. (Last week: 3rd)
Vibes are nervous. The Yankees have halted their slide after stringing together consecutive wins for the first time since late June, but a brutal 2-11 stretch beforehand underscored deeper concerns—concerns that only the returns of Aaron Judge, Max Fried, and others might help mitigate. (Last week: 5th)
Vibes are unpredictable. Pete Crow-Armstrong continues to put the Cubs on the map, delivering extremes—two 10-game win streaks alongside a brutal 7-22 slump after the second streak. Yet his position-player-leading 5.9 WAR (per Fangraphs) keeps Chicago firmly in the playoff conversation. (Last week: 6th)
Vibes are still up but on fragile footing. Through June 7, the Braves owned the best record in the majors at 45-21. In the five weeks since, they’ve slipped to 9-18, and the big drop has centered on offense, which has ranked last in wRC+ during this stretch, a downturn exacerbated by Ronald Acuña Jr.’s injury. This shift has left the defending champions vulnerable as they navigate the second half of the season.
