Moreira-Roma: €12-15 million difference with Strasbourg

Roma, still licking its wounds after Celik’s surprising exit and his decision to join Juventus instead of renewing with the Giallorossi, must craft a message on the transfer market that also offers reassurance to Gian Piero Gasperini. While awaiting developments regarding Summerville, the club continues to press ahead with plans to bring Diego Moreira to Trigoria. The 2004-born full-back has emerged as an even more concrete target after the departure of the Turkish defender, and Roma now has to address a shortfall in options on the flanks. At present, the squad can rely on Wesley, Rensch, and Angelino for width, while Salah-Eddine, who is returning from a loan spell at PSV, appears destined for an exit.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the Giallorossi management has already reached an agreement with the player on a salary of €2 million per season plus bonuses, and the club intends to finalize terms with Strasbourg in the coming hours, with Mendes overseeing the mediation. The financial gap between Roma and the French club remains substantial: Roma has offered €30 million plus bonuses, but Strasbourg’ s asking price is still in the range of €42 to €45 million. Gasperini, meanwhile, is waiting for Roma to make the first decisive move on the market.
In this context, the transfer strategy is being framed to balance competitiveness with financial prudence. The club is signaling a readiness to invest in a young, versatile full-back who can contribute both defensively and offensively, while also ensuring that the wage structure remains sustainable. The potential acquisition of Moreira would not only add a dynamic option on the left flank but also offer tactical flexibility for manager Jose Mourinho, allowing him to rotate wingers and full-backs depending on the opposition and the competition calendar.
As talks with Strasbourg unfold, Roma will likely explore all avenues to bridge the price gap, including structuring a deal with add-ons tied to performance milestones or future resale clauses. The situation remains fluid, with Gasperini’s expectations and the club’s broader objectives in mind: reinforce the squad’s width, provide more depth for the rotation, and maintain a strategic approach to the transfer market that aligns with the club’s long-term plans.
Meanwhile, players in the squad who could provide short-term solutions will be evaluated in the coming weeks, and the club will continue to monitor Summerville while pursuing a resolution on the Moreira front. The market dynamics suggest that Roma intends to act decisively once a consensus is reached with Strasbourg and Mendes’ mediation clears the path, signaling a clear intent to strengthen the squad and reassure the supporters and staff that the club remains committed to competing at the highest level.
