The speculation surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future in Milwaukee has circulated in recent months but is picking up even more steam ahead of Tuesday’s 2026 NBA Draft. While teams like the Golden State Warriors and Portland Trail Blazers were said to be in the mix for Antetokounmpo in the past, the two frontrunners at the moment are Boston and Miami.
However, Shams Charania of ESPN revealed Monday that a deal involving Giannis will be less complicated than people think. “I want to make this clear: whichever deal (Celtics or Heat) occurs, it’s going to be a one-for-one deal. It’s going to consist of Milwaukee and one of these two teams. There are no 3rd and 4th teams,” said Charania.
While a move of this caliber is certainly risky considering Antetokounmpo only has two years remaining on his deal, one of which is a player option, the Miami Heat have been desperate to add a star in recent seasons. As for the Celtics, a trade involving Antetokounmpo and Jaylen Brown would get Boston off of Brown’s expensive contract (three years, $183 million remaining) while still cementing their status as Eastern Conference contenders.
