Credit: Trevor Ruszkowski-Imagn Images, NBC SportsWhen it comes to Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry, Mike Tomlin acts like he’s in a video game that didn’t get the rights to use his likeness. The NBC Sports NFL analyst and former Pittsburgh Steelers coach was tasked with discussing Henry and the Ravens during their Sunday Night Football showdown with the Atlanta Falcons. However, when it came time to talk about the generational running back, Tomlin treated him like Voldemort or Beetlejuice, refusing to use his name.“When you don’t have a guy the caliber of Lamar Jackson, as they say in The Godfather, ‘It’s time to go to the mattresses.’ How do they go to the mattresses? They ride the Big Runner,” said Tomlin on Sunday when discussing Henry.“In the past, the Big Runner was always accompanied by Patrick Ricard, the 300-pound fullback,” he continued. “We all know he now plays for the New York Football Giants, and I’m feeling a little difference this year. The Big Runner is 4.2 per carry. Last year he was 5.2. The year before he was 5.9. And so it’s a little— been a little bit tougher sledding without the 300-pound lead blocker.”Football Night in America host Maria Taylor chimed in to give context for viewers who might still be confused about who this magical Big Runner is.“I just want to remind you guys, the Big Runner is Derrick Henry,” she said. “He still will not say his name because he sends a shiver down his spine. He won’t say it.”“I cannot say it,” added Tomlin. So much respect for The Big Runner.— Mike Tomlin (@CoachTomlin) October 12, 2026Tomlin’s fearful respect for Henry dates back to when the Big Runner racked up yardage and touchdowns for the Tennessee Titans. And while he might not have to worry about coaching against him anymore (but maybe?), it’s obvious he’ll remain overly respectful, just in case.Add it to the list of fun quirks we’ve learned about the former NFL coach as he’s started to let his personality run wild. The post NBC’s Mike Tomlin refuses to say Derrick Henry’s name appeared first on Awful Announcing.
