Mayfield has pushed back against those comments, pointing to the fact that he has never missed a game in his three seasons in Tampa.That is true. Mayfield has started all 51 games since becoming the Bucs’ quarterback for the 2023 season. But while he hasn’t missed a game, there have been several instances of him playing while clearly nowhere near 100%.Mayfield is one of the stars of Season 3 of the Netflix docuseries Quarterback, which is available to watch as of today. The series gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the four QBs (also featuring Cam Ward, Jayden Daniels, and Joe Flacco) during the 2025 season, showcasing their lives on and off the field.According to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, Quarterback shows the extent of the injuries that Mayfield played with throughout the 2025 season.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThere are a lot.As the series shows, Mayfield was hurt almost all year.He sprained his MCL and PCL in Week 2 and never got enough rest for those injuries to heal properly. Mayfield played through the pain for the rest of the season.In addition to the knee ailments, he also suffered a serious biceps contusion that affected the velocity on his throws.Mayfield then suffered a shoulder injury against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 12, resulting in his arm being put in a sling after the game.The series is certain to spark a debate over whether Mayfield should have sat out games to get healthy. Would the season have ended differently if he had missed a couple of games instead of pushing through the injuries? We will never know.However, injuries to wide receivers Mike Evans, Chris Godwin Jr., and Jalen McMillan, as well as running back Bucky Irving and most of the offensive line missing significant time, undoubtedly made Mayfield feel an even greater obligation to play while hurt.If Mayfield was indeed too hurt to play, the responsibility to sit him falls on the coaching staff and team doctors.
