But with two top-10 passing offenses, two top-20 scoring offenses, and a pair of bottom-25 scoring defenses, even that lofty projection couldn’t keep pace with these two explosive attacks.Backed by a record-setting student turnout, North Texas emerged victorious in the offensive fireworks show, outlasting Florida Atlantic, 48-41. The two teams combined for 1,148 yards of offense, 11 touchdowns, and four field goals in a battle that never went more than eight minutes without a scoring play.“We’re playing high-level offense,” North Texas head coach Neal Brown said. “We’re playing as good of offense as anybody in the country.”For North Texas, it production came from the usual suspects — the “big three” of quarterback Tayven Jackson, running back Jahiem White, and wide receiver Justin Stevenson. While the trio delivered another prolific outing, Brown wasn’t fully satisfied with his stars’ execution on offense.“I thought we competed, and this sounds crazy because we had 625 yards, but we played a B-minus game,” North Texas head coach Neal Brown said. “I mean that in a humble way. Tayven did some things, going the wrong way and not pulling the ball when he should have pulled the ball. Don’t get me wrong. We won and we played well because of those guys, but because of their talent, they’re gonna be held to a really high standard. I thought they played good, maybe just under good, but not at a high enough level for us to go win the league.”Jackson entered Thursday ranked third nationally in passing, averaging 310 yards per game. Yet, he blew well past that mark against the Owls, completing an efficient 33-of-46 passes for 404 yards and four touchdowns.White was just as dominant on the ground. The nation’s sixth-leading rusher nearly doubled his season average, amassing 193 yards and two touchdowns. The star running back has now scored in all eight games since transferring to North Texas and surpassed 100 yards for the fifth-straight week. White reached the century mark before halftime, giving the Mean Green their first lead at 24-17 on a 59-yard touchdown sprint. North Texas improved to 6-0 this season when White eclipses 100 yards.“They’re elite players,” Brown said of Jackson and W
