Notre Dame injury update: Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa & Matty Augustine

By admin — In News — October 9, 2026

Notre Dame football will host the Stanford Cardinal on Saturday afternoon, and on Thursday got an update on two players who were listed as questionable heading into the game. It was good and bad news for the Irish reported by Pete Sampson, as first the player who will see the field, offensive lineman Matty Augustine who has yet to play this season due to a foot injury. The plan was for him to practice this week and see how it goes, and it looks like he’ll get his first action of 2026 on Saturday. The bad news was that linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa won’t be able to play after injuring his thumb against North Carolina. He had an early interception, but was pretty quiet after that, which makes a lot more sense now. Getting Augustine back just strengthens the offensive line, as the depth continues to grow. Missing out on KVA hurts, as he seemingly can’t stay on the field despite immense talent. Hopefully he’s ready to go for the big game next weekend at BYU. Offensive guard Matty Augustine is expected to be available to make his season debut on Saturday, per Marcus Freeman. He had been competing for starting job until a foot injury required surgery during training camp.— Pete Sampson (@PeteSampson_) October 8, 2026Contact/Follow us @IrishWireND on X (formerly Twitter) and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Notre Dame news, notes and opinions.Contact/Follow us @IrishWireND on X (formerly Twitter) and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Notre Dame news, notes and opinions. This article originally appeared on Fighting Irish Wire: Notre Dame injury update: Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa & Matty Augustine
