Huntington Beach (Calif.) opened its 2026 season with a dominant 42-14 win on the road over Millikan on Thursday night. Leading the charge for the Oilers, to no surprise, was senior four-star quarterback Brady Edmunds. The longtime Ohio State commit has been one of the top passers in his class for some time. He opened his final year of high school football with a bang, throwing for 446 yards — a new single-game school record — and six touchdowns in the victory.Edmunds completed 25 of 32 attempts and also added 30 yards on the ground. He did throw an interception, but that was the lone blemish on an otherwise flawless night for the impressive 6-foot-5, 235-pounder.Three of Edmunds’ touchdown throws were caught by senior three-star Dylin Bruce, an Arizona State commit. Bruce finished the night with 10 receptions and 225 receiving yards. Huntington Beach led just 14-0 at halftime, then turned things up a notch, mostly thanks to the Edmunds-Bruce connection. Edmunds’ 25 completions were also a career high. The four-year starter has now thrown for over 9,000 yards 98 touchdowns across 37 games for the Oilers. It was a breakout sophomore campaign that saw the future Buckeye throw 36 TDs and run for nine more. He followed that up with 36 total scores last season in 11 games.Huntington Beach entered the 2026 season as the No. 95 team in California, according to the Rivals Composite Rankings. Arguably its biggest game of the year is already on-deck, as it will host No. 13 Los Alamitos next week.Scouting Brady EdmundsEdmunds has been committed to Ohio State since Dec. 2, 2024. He hasn’t wavered since, though earlier this year there were questions about him sticking with the Buckeyes as they continued to give other 2027 QB prospects a look. After considering UCLA and others, Edmunds remained pledged to OSU.He’s the No. 235 overall prospect and No. 18 QB in the 2027 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 19 senior in California. Edmunds reminds Rivals’ Scouting and Rankings team of Zach Mettenberger. Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power wrote this about the four-star after he competed at the Elite 11 Finals this summer in Los Angeles:“Ohio State commit Brady Edmunds had one of the stronger arms at the Elite 11 Finals. The 6-foot-5, 235-pounder has an over-the-top delivery and easily generates significant velocity on his throws. Edmunds can rip throws to the second and third levels of the field with regularity. He started hot during 7-on-7 before cooling down to end the period. Edmunds is a pure drop back passer and will need to continue improving his movement skills.”How to Follow California High School FootballFor California high school football fans looking to keep up with scores around the nation, staying updated on the action is now easier than ever with the Rivals High School Scoreboard.
