​The LSU Tigers and Ole Miss Rebels already have one of the most unique rivalry situations going into next year, as a result of the modern college landscape, and it just got way more interesting.Rebels insider Jake Thompson of On3 broke the news on Tuesday night that Ole Miss would be suing current Tigers stars Devin Harper and Princewill Umanmielen for a breach of contract with their transfer to LSU for a total that reaches just under $1 million. This means that these two will have a chance to face a team this season that has an active lawsuit open against them, as if they needed any extra motivation after how much has already transpired this offseason between the schools.In the case of both stars, they had come to agreements to return to the Rebels and then, within the 90-day window, left those deals to follow Lane Kiffin to Ole Miss. It was also reported that the Tigers had declined the Rebels’ request to pay the money on behalf of the players.It made sense that Ole Miss acted quickly to try to secure two players who were important talents, and then it made sense when Kiffin brought them over to Baton Rouge.The Rebels tried to get the money from both parties back in January, to no avail, which conflicted with a 30-day contract window. It’s hard to know how any of these proceedings will play out with the constant changing landscape surrounding the sport, as the Tigers will be the forefront of an interesting situation. Umanmielen was reportedly given a $550,000 deal by Ole Miss, per ESPN’s Mark Schlabach. The rumors of his deal with LSU got up to $2 million, but NIL money is all over the place. No matter what, it’s clear that he is a highly-touted pass rusher.It was worth it for the Tigers to get involved at that price as they try to generate more pressure on opposing quarterbacks. As good as the defense was last year, they didn’t sack the other team much. Now they made a heavy investment to make sure that doesn’t continue.The Rebels are seeking $400,000 from Harper, who is a high-potential guard that Kiffin’s staff clearly values. He might not even start right away, but they believe he has a bright future.
