Orioles minor league recap 7/3: Irish homers twice, Estrada launches go-ahead slam

Triple-A: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Yankees) 7, Norfolk Tides 3. Cade Povich yielded two early homers but settled in, lasting into the fifth. The left-hander gave up seven hits, walked one, and struck out five. Povich worked a clean third inning, avoided trouble after a two-out double in the fourth, and exited after a walk and a double in the fifth. He threw 56 of 81 pitches for strikes. Heston Kjerstad homered for the second straight night, his fifth of the season. Enrique Bradfield Jr. swiped two bases and scored twice while going 1-for-4 with a walk. Jeremiah Jackson went 2-for-5, and Ryan Noda drew a base on balls to go 2-for-3.
Double-A: Chesapeake Baysox 8, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (Mets) 4. Chesapeake trailed 4-2 before erupting for six runs in the top of the ninth. Aron Estrada hit a go-ahead grand slam to flip a two-run deficit into a two-run lead. Ethan Anderson followed with a solo shot, and Douglas Hodo III drove in the eighth run of the evening. The grand slam capped Estrada’s big day, as the 21-year-old finished 4-for-5 with a triple shy of the cycle. Frederick Bencosme doubled twice and went 4-for-5 as well. Also notable was Joseph Dzierwa, who limited the Rumble Ponies to two hits over 4.2 scoreless innings. Alex Pham pitched 2.1 scoreless innings. Richard Guasch allowed all four runs in one inning but earned the win.
High-A: Frederick Keys 9, Brooklyn Cyclones (Mets) 4. Ike Irish belted solo homers in the first and sixth innings, finishing 3-for-5 with two round-trippers, his 11th and 12th of the season. Wehiwa Aloy went 3-for-5 with a triple and three RBIs, and Vance Honeycutt drew a walk and scored after going 1-for-3. Yeiber Cartaya limited Brooklyn to one run over 4.2 innings, allowing three hits, fanning two, and walking two. Tyson Neighbors earned the win with a perfect eighth, striking out two.
Low-A: Delmarva Shorebirds 3, Charleston RiverDogs (Rays) 2. Delmarva scored all three runs in the second inning. The Shorebirds opened with a wild pitch, and Raylin Ramos delivered a two-run single up the middle. Charleston out-hit Delmarva 7–5, but Delmarva’s pitching contained the RiverDogs. Andrew Herbert gave Delmarva a quality start, allowing five hits but only two earned runs. Trent Turzenski, J.D. Hennen, and Jack Crowder combined for three scoreless innings of relief.
