Pine Island native shoots his best round in a PGA Tour event

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Anders Larson’s first PGA Tour appearance as a professional has come to a close, but not before delivering his best round yet on the tour. The Pine Island native closed out the ISCO Championship with his top PGA Tour score in Friday’s play, firing a 2-under-par 69 in the second round at Hurstbourne Country Club. After a 36-hole event that finished at 2-over par, Larson missed the cut for the weekend. The par-70 layout stretches to 7,056 yards.
This marks the second time Larson has competed in the John Deere Classic, having qualified for the event at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois, in both 2023 and 2024. He missed the cut in both of those starts but gained valuable experience as an amateur while remaining eligible to continue playing college golf. In 2023, his PGA Tour debut, Larson posted rounds of 72 and 82 to finish 12-over par (154). A year later in 2024, he went 80 and 86 (166).
PGATour.com shared a video of Larson sinking an 11-foot birdie putt in Thursday’s opening round, which he finished at 1-under-par 73. Friday’s performance was a significant step forward: he recorded 11 pars and four birdies, with three birdies coming in his final seven holes to clock a 33 on the back nine.
Among Pine Island and Zumbrota-Mazeppa’s most notable alumni, Larson stands out as one of the program’s best. He was the runner-up in Section 1, Class 2A as a senior in 2022, finishing third individually at the Class 2A state meet and helping lead the Wildcats to their first team state championship. He spent his first two college seasons at Tennessee Tech University before transferring to Eastern Kentucky University for the last two years.
Larson’s collegiate eligibility concluded after this spring’s season, in which he once again led the Colonels in scoring. He averaged 71.42 strokes per 18 holes, finished in the top five in four of nine events, and captured his first Division I victory at the Seminole Intercollegiate. Held in Tallahassee, Florida, at the Seminole Legacy Golf Club and hosted by Florida State University, the event featured 21 teams, with EKU winning medalist honors for a three-round total of 7-under-par (69-74-66—209).
As with his previous starts at the John Deere Classic, Larson earned his ISCO Championship entry via medalist honors at a Monday qualifier on July 6. He plans to compete in at least two more Monday qualifiers, including one in two weeks to try to secure a spot in the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, July 23-26. The 3M Open field already includes top players such as world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Spieth, Max Homa, and 2021 Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama.
Beyond the ISCO Championship, Larson is poised to pursue additional routes to qualify for the PGA Tour, aiming to maximize his presence on the circuit and continue building his professional résumé.
