Post 18 Juniors pick up 25th victory to end regular season

   ​Jul. 17—RENNER, S.D. — The Palace City Post 18 Junior Legion regular season came to a close on Thursday with a win and a loss against Renner Post 307 at the Renner Ballpark. Palace City won Game 1 by a score of 3-2 before the Dukes returned the one-run outcome in Game 2, with Renner winning 7-6.In Game 1, Palace City scored all three runs in the fourth inning for a 3-0 lead and then held on after Renner scored twice in the fifth. Owen Borgan had two hits and an RBI, while Gage Schmidt and Treston Zens both drove in runs, scoring Schmidt, Gavin Mendenhall and Jack Hohn, with Hohn adding two steals. Post 18 finished with an 8-3 margin in the hit column.Noah Bennett was the winning pitcher with one hit and one unearned run allowed, while striking out seven batters in four innings of work. Oliver Raml had the three-inning save, allowing two hits, an unearned run and striking out three batters.Renner won Game 2 in walk-off fashion in the seventh inning, when Kadyn King knocked in the winning run from second base for a 7-6 win. Madden Graves had two hits and two runs scored, plus two of Post 18’s five stolen bases. Owen Borgan had two hits and Jordon Ebert, Borgan, Schmidt and Zens all had RBIs in the game.Mendenhall started and threw two innings, allowing one hit and five runs (four earned) with four walks. Jett Krantz took the loss in relief, allowing two hits and two runs, three walks and striking out three in 4 2/3 innings. Graves gave up the game-winning hit to the only batter he faced in the seventh frame.The Post 18 Juniors finish the regular season at 25-18 overall and 8-11 against Class A South Dakota foes. They will be on the road for the best-of-three state-qualifier series, which will begin on Wednesday, July 22. The first-round playoff matchups will be announced at the conclusion of the regular season on July 18.
