Predicting where Georgia football will be in the first CFP rankings

The Georgia Bulldogs should be among the country’s highest ranked teams in the first edition of the College Football Playoff rankings. Georgia is coming off a 27-8 win over the Florida Gators where Georgia forced four Florida turnovers and shutdown the Gators’ rushing attack.Georgia has just one win over a currently ranked team in the US LBM Coaches Poll. The Bulldogs beat No. 9 Alabama. Georgia still has an impressive collection of wins with the Bulldogs prevailing over Oklahoma, Florida, Vanderbilt, Arkansas and Alabama in SEC play. Georgia’s loss to 4-4 Auburn could hold the Bulldogs back and prevent UGA from being ranked quite as high in the initial CFP rankings. The Coaches Poll has Georgia at No. 2 as the nation’s top one-loss team, but will the playoff rankings have Georgia in the same spot? The Bulldogs could be ranked behind undefeated teams like Miami, Utah and UCLA.In USA TODAY’s playoff ranking projections, Georgia is the No. 2 seed. The Bulldogs are ranked behind No. 1 Miami, but ahead of No. 3 Utah, No. 4 Indiana and No. 5 Kentucky. The biggest surprise of the rankings is seeing two loss Ohio State at No. 6 right after losing. Ohio State is even ranked over undefeated UCLA, one-loss BYU and one-loss Notre Dame. I don’t see why the committee would rank Ohio State over Texas, who won a head-to-head matchup and has the same record.
