The expected appointment of Jürgen Klopp as national team coach is set to take the next hurdle later on Wednesday when German Football Federation (DFB) president Bernd Neuendorf will inform the relevant DFB bodies of recent talks.Dpa sources said that Neuendorf will brief the 14-strong DFB supervisory board and the four-strong decision-making body of its commercial division.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementNeuendorf and vice-president Hans-Joachim Watzke met with Klopp last week in New York and on Tuesday meeting with Oliver MIntzlaff of Klopp’s current employers Red Bull in Munich. The DFB did not announce results of the meeting with Mintzlaff while it said after the meeting with Klopp that “an agreement was reached on the key points of a potential contract.”Former Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool coach Klopp is Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer on a contract until 2029.It is widely believed that Red Bull will release Klopp out of his contract but it not clear whether the DFB may have to pay a fee or whether Klopp could work for Red Bull in the new capacity. Additional internationals in Leipzig’s Red Bull Arena or training at Leipzig’s facilities are seen as other options.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementIt is expected that Mintzlaff and Klopp will meet around Sunday’s World Cup final in New Jersey. Mintzlaff is said to be present, and Klopp will be there in his function as a MagentaTV World Cup pundit. If all talks are successful, a final agreement between the DFB and Klopp, pending final approval from the relevant DFB bodies, and his official presentation could come next week after his return to Germany.Klopp is expected to receive a contract until 2030 in succession of Julian Nagelsmann, who resigned after Germany’s World Cup last 32 exit against Paraguay.Germany next matches are in late September and early October, four Nations League fixtures against the Netherlands, Serbia and Greece (twice).
