The Birmingham Mail reports that Aston Villa’s versatile defender Lucas Digne is on their radar. It’s a somewhat surprising development, but it makes sense: Digne is under contract with a release clause, though the exact amount isn’t publicly clear yet. Villa signed him for £25 million in 2022. Digne spent three years at PSG from 2013 to 2016, and the plan would be for him not only to serve as a backup to Nuno Mendes but also to bring a strong presence in the locker room. His leadership within the France squad at the World Cup this summer is reportedly a major factor behind PSG’s interest.
All of this remains contingent on events after the World Cup, with Digne expected to go all the way with Les Bleus.
