Like most NFL rookies, Las Vegas Raiders rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza has faced and will face his share of criticism from fans and critics alike until he proves he is the man for the job.Any time a team takes a chance on a guy right out of college to be a first-year starter, you’re taking a huge chance, and while many feel that the Raiders did draft the best quarterback in the draft, there are still questions about Mendoza and whether he fits the Raiders.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementRaiders great Marcus Allen isn’t quite sold on Mendoza yet, and is not sure he may be ready to be a starter right away, and he expressed that recently in an interview on the NFL Network.“The pressure and expectation of being the No. 1 pick, along with the amount of money guys are being paid, means we often throw players out there when they may not be ready or may not have the personnel around them to really facilitate an opportunity to be successful.”You can understand Allen’s skepticism about Mendoza. The Raiders haven’t exactly been successful of late when picking a starting quarterback in the draft or in free agency, but despite his skepticism, Allen does seem to trust the Raiders’ front office and general manager John Spytek.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement“It all depends on management and what they want to do; I have faith in [Spytek]. I think he’s going to do a great job.”A lot of Mendoza’s success will be determined by who the Raiders surround him with on offense. The Raiders didn’t have a lot of playmakers last year on offense and relied heavily on their defense to keep them in games, and it looks like it will be Mendoza’s job to carry this offense. This article originally appeared on Touchdown Wire: Raiders legend not quite sold yet on rookie QB Fernando Mendoza
