Rams Get More Good News on Embattled Super Bowl Champion

Alaric Jackson’s status with the Los Angeles Rams continues to cast a long shadow over the franchise as they prepare for the upcoming season. The Rams are counting on Jackson to be Matthew Stafford’s blindside protector, a crucial role given that Stafford is coming off an MVP-winning year and is entering what could be another window of contention for a deep postseason run. With training camp on the horizon, the team is hoping for stability on the left side of the line to support their quarterback and protect the progress they’ve made on offense.
Recent developments have brought some cautious optimism regarding Jackson’s legal situation. The Los Angeles Times’ Gary Klein reported that Jackson will not face charges after his arrest on suspicion of domestic violence. A spokesperson for the LA County Attorney’s Office, Ivor Pine, indicated that charges are not filed at this time, though the case remains open within the statute of limitations and can be reevaluated if new information emerges. Pine also noted that the case has been “assigned for a City Attorney hearing,” which is a form of pre-filing diversion that serves as an alternative to misdemeanor prosecution. This update marks positive news for Jackson, who had already learned he would not face felony charges.
Despite these developments, there is still potential for NFL discipline. If the league determines that Jackson violated its personal conduct policy, he could face punishment that would affect his status with the team. It’s worth noting that Jackson, an undrafted free agent, has already served a two-game suspension for undisclosed reasons related to policy violations, which could make him a repeat offender and subject to stricter penalties.
Contractually, Jackson is locked in with the Rams through 2027 on a three-year deal worth $57.7 million. However, the future of his place on the roster is far from guaranteed, given the latest incident and the ongoing evaluation by both league and team. Notably, there is no guaranteed money remaining on his contract in 2027, which means the Rams could face a potential upheaval to their offensive line if Jackson’s status were to change significantly in the near term. The 2026 season could very well be his last with the team, one way or another, unless a resolution favorable to continuity is reached. For now, though, the Rams would prefer not to be forced into a major overhaul of their protection schemes, especially since they do not currently have a clear plan in place to replace him.
The Rams’ outlook for the offense around Stafford would suffer substantially if Jackson were to miss time or depart. In the previous season, both Stafford and Jackson faced health challenges that tested the team’s depth. Jackson dealt with blood clots for the second time in his career, while Stafford managed a back issue that sidelined him during portions of training camp. Despite those setbacks, Stafford played all 17 regular-season games, but Jackson missed Week 17 with a knee injury, a loss that was felt in a critical late-season contest against the Atlanta Falcons.
As the offseason unfolds, Jackson remains the most consequential question mark for the Rams. His performance and availability are pivotal to the team’s plans, particularly for protecting a veteran quarterback who remains central to their Super Bowl aspirations. Until more definitive news emerges from legal or league proceedings, the Rams will continue to monitor Jackson’s status and plan accordingly, hoping to maintain continuity on the offensive line and preserve momentum toward another competitive season in the brutal landscape of the NFC West.
