The start of the World Cup 2026 was not particularly favorable for Real Madrid. Several of their players, including Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dani Carvajal, Alvaro Carreras, Franco Mastantuono, and Eduardo Camavinga, were not called up by their national teams. With only nine Real Madrid players taking part in the tournament, the club registered its lowest international representation in the past decade. That figure rose, however, with the arrival of four new signings—Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konaté, Denzel Dumfries, and Bernardo Silva—and the return of Endrick to the Merengue ranks after the end of his loan spell.
Yet, the narrative for Los Blancos has been more about quality over quantity. Several Madrid players have assumed pivotal roles for their respective sides, underscoring the club’s depth at the international level. In fact, Real Madrid now stands out as the club whose players have contributed the most goals in this World Cup, totaling 17. Diario AS notes that if their players manage to score two more goals, Real Madrid will set a new benchmark in World Cup scoring by a single club.
Historically, only three clubs have seen their players tally 18 goals in the same World Cup tournament: Honvéd in 1954, Bayern Munich in 2014, and Paris Saint-Germain in 2022. With Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Marc Cucurella, and Ibrahima Konaté still in contention in the tournament, Real Madrid could well surpass that mark and break the plateau that currently stands at 18.
Among the five Real Madrid names contributing to the tally, two have shouldered a particularly heavy load: Kylian Mbappé has contributed eight goals, and Jude Bellingham has added four. Vinícius Júnior has also found the back of the net four times, though his campaign has ended with his elimination from further rounds. Arda Güler registered a goal as well, though his Turkish national team exited at the group stage.
At this stage, Kylian Mbappé is tied for the lead in the World Cup’s top-scorer chart with Lionel Messi. Real Madrid will be hoping that the remaining players on their squad can add more goals in the upcoming matches, strengthening the club’s claim to a record-breaking World Cup tally. If they can extend their scoring spree in subsequent fixtures, Real Madrid may well set a new club record for World Cup goals, further cementing their reputation for supplying prolific attacking talent on the world stage. As the tournament progresses, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see whether Real Madrid can convert their international efficiency into a historic scoring achievement.
