Red Sox re-sign veteran reliever to minor league deal

   ​Tommy Kahnle is coming back to the Red Sox organization.The veteran reliever signed a minor league deal and will return to Triple-A Worcester, according to Tommy Cassell of the Worcester Telegram & Gazette.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThe 36-year-old began the season in the WooSox and was dominant in Triple-A — 1.40 ERA in 18 appearances — but struggled when he was called up to Boston in June. With the Red Sox, Kahnle gave up eight runs in eight outings. In nine innings, he allowed 12 hits, walked six, and struck out five. He was designated for assignment on July 1.“Tommy was awesome,” interim manager Chad Tracy said after the DFA. “His time in Worcester that I was there, he was amazing with all of our players there. The guys loved him here. There’s just spots where things come up and he was amazingly pro. But sometimes things come up where it just cannot be avoided.”Kahnle elected free agency, but two weeks later, he returned to the organization.Across a 12-year career, Kahnle has appeared in 464 MLB games, posting a career ERA of 3.70.
